FOR those interested in a craft focus, the Patchwork and Quilting Display
at the Ttntinara CWA building had to be seen to be believed.
Twenty quilts, 23 wall hangings and eight quilts made by school students
filled both rooms of the building in a colourful display of local talent.
Typical of the spirited Tintinara community, the request for quilts
was met with an avalanche of offers to loan them for the display.
Some quilts were finished just in time for the weekend display.
Organiser, Sharon Webb, who hadn't expected the display to be so well
supported was delighted with the final result.
Nearly 200 people viewed the exhibition that was open all day Saturday,
with gold coin donations going to the Friends of the CWA committee to
help maintain the historic building.
Many young people were also working on a different arts project up until
the last minute.
The painted stobie poles lining the main street provided a fascinating
'walk of history' for both locals and visitors.
Depicting significant activities and organisations that have helped
shape Tintinara, the poles have both aesthetic and interest value.
They are a Tintinara Area School project organised by art teacher and
artist, Colleen Rodda as part of the community studies curriculum.
The project began about three years ago, with a lot of time spent researching
material.
Audrey Tucker from the historical society provided much of the information
needed as well as comprehensive lists of different eras and important
happenings.
Students painted 44 sides of poles, with help from Mrs Rodda, to complete
the 'walk of history' through town. |
