AFTER three years
of organising the centenary golf
tournament the 18 hole
ambrose came off without a
hitch.
Even the weather - sunny
warm and made
to order - was
perfect.
Not to be missed was the
huge "Tinty 100" wording spray
painted in bright red on the
hillside.
As with other
events over the
weekend, the infectious community spirit was
to the fore, with so many people whose
lives have been touched by
Tintinara in one way or another
reviving memories and
renewing friendships on the
golf course.
Letters sent to
former golf club
members yielded a huge response,
with 88 golfers entering
the competition.
"It was a nice
comfortable crowd on the larger side of normal
for the Tintinara Golf Club.
The teams all know
how to play golf
and are serious
about the game", Doug Twelftree,
golf representative
on the centenary committee,
said.
Along with the
players, about 18 previous members also
returned to watch the golf and revisit the golf course that holds
so many good memories
of sporting days.
Mavis Braddy lived
at Terrapee,
Tintinara, for about 40 years
from 1961. She worked at
the school for 11 years and was a keen golfer and handicap
manager. She played golf at Tintinara every week along with
lots of other women who played
in those days.
"I absolutely
loved golf and
could hit the ball straight, although
often not quite far enough",
she said with a laugh.
Tournament sponsor
Phil Candy said the weekend, with so many
people returning,
made him realise how fortunate he had been to stay in
Tintinara with his business, while
many former residents had to move on to further career
opportunities.
Trophy
presentations followed the competition.
