The Heart of the Parks was formed in 1991 as a non profit group to provide an outlet for locally produced art and craft.
Initially operating out of the front room of the Tintinara Institute, staffed entirely by volunteer members on a roster system. With the business growing a larger premises was sought to better display the products, cater for an increased membership and be more accessible to the passing traffic along the Dukes Highway.

The Tintinara Railway Station building having been unused for 15 years was the choice, with the help of the Coorong Council, a lease for the building was obtained from State Transport.
Renovations to the building began in November 2000 using volunteer labour from Heart of the Parks members, local Tradespersons, Action & Service Clubs. Materials were purchased through Grants from the Coorong Council, (SA) Premiers Fund and and the cost of the painting of the mural by Country Arts SA.
The Mural depicting a typical railway station scene from yesteryear was designed and painted by local artist, Julia Cowley, a member of the Heart of the Parks. Julia has artwork for sale on display.
